He exclaimed that his father was lazy, feminine, and wasteful. Because of this Okonkwo was driven to succeed and be different than his father. Okonkwo grew up to live a wealthy fightrior in the clan of Umuofia, in Nigeria. He had two sons, one of which came to a horrible end. subsequently one of the clan members also dies the resolution holds a funeral with custody beating drums and firing guns. Tragedy strikes when Okonkwo fires a gun and by the way kills a teenaged boy. Okonkwo and his family ar banished for seven years from the village. The village they flee to had missionaries visit and set about to influence people to change over to Christianity. Okonkwo is infuriated and does not understand how you can only total one God. later on Okonkwos term of banishment is up, he returns to his foot village to bewilder out that thither are missionaries there too. Okonkwo cannot deal with how much his village has changed and how they have changed. His life ends in a possibility when he hangs himself. Okonkwo does not express each affection to ward anyone because he believes it will make him look weak.

Okonkwo believes that a man should neer act feminine, always be dispirited and to never grit down. He lives in the embarrassing derriere of his father. His fathers weaknesses drove him to become a successful and confident man. Okonkwos oldest son, Nwoye,eventually displays masculine traits like his father wants.
